Clodagh's Stylist Shares Her Top Race-Day Dressing Tips

Clodagh’s stylist Sarah Byrne, shares her top tips for dressing for the races below.

1. Comfort is key and this especially applies to shoes as you will be on your feet all day. I tend to favour a block heel which is a God send on grass. Or I recommend Clean Heels if you prefer a thin heel.

2. Prevention is better than cure. No matter how comfortable ones shoes are, blisters can be inevitable. The best way to minimise the risk is to talcum powder your feet in the morning. And to stash some Compeed in your bag.

3. As for your bag I recommend something with a strap of some sort - a wristlet or shoulder strap is my preference as it frees up your hands for holding your race-card, champagne and camera!

4. When choosing your hat there are two key things to bear in mind - your plans for the day and your outfit silhouette. With the former, a wide or tall hat that needs your hair dressed around it can be troublesome in a long car journey or for a seated lunch. With the latter, I tell clients to think of their hat as the roof to their house - the proportions need to work! I tend to video myself or my clients walking in the outfit as this gives the best impression of the top to toe look.

5. I love the movement towards rental be it outfits or hats and think we should all embrace this more. It also means you can experiment with different styles and do your bit for the planet! Hurr & By Rotation have an amazing array of rental fashion while The Cotswold Hat Club have more than 500 hat options available to hire.
