Why You Should Get Outside Right Now

There are a whole load of fancy words for this now: forest bathing, ecotherapy, mindfulness in nature, green time and more. Really all it is is what we deep down know is so good for us, stepping out into nature; into fields and woods, streams and rivers, hills and jagged coastlines or simply a patch of earth where flowers can grow and life is preset, wherever you are drawn to away from endless man made matter.

I have my own theory that when we are in cities and towns too much and we can’t see space or horizons, our worries end up taking up our vista, much bigger and more self important than they need to be. When we get into nature and can see for miles we realise how small we really are compared to nature, our worries and niggles don’t seem quite so big, there is physical and metaphorical space. We are a tiny cog in this big beautiful wild world that we are so lucky to be a witnessing part of.

Regularly being outside in nature can:

  • Help anxiety

  • Lift our mood

  • Help slow a whirring mind

  • Encourage a healthy heart rate, brain wave and breath count, all directly linked to a healthy nervous system

  • Lessen symptoms of fatigue

  • Help our circadian rhythm aiding to more restful sleep

  • Help us feel more connected

  • Increase creativity

  • Lift our self esteem

If you can, especially in this beautiful weather here in the uk at the moment, find time to be in nature, on a walk, tending to a flower bed or perhaps sitting by the sea then hopefully the benefits will unearth themselves to each of us over time. We are all individual and our connection to nature will unearth an individual positive response.

For me a connection to nature is at my very core and I need it as regularly as possible to feel centred, calm and grounded. I am immensely humbled and grateful each and every time I step out into nature.

Let’s leave our phones behind for a little while and see what magic can happen when we really truly pay attention to Mother Nature in all her glory.

Enjoy,

Z x
