Coffee Compost

Who knew that a lot of our plants also like a cup of joe in the morning to give them a lift! Coffee compost is a fantastic and sustainable way to use all your leftover coffee grinds. Pop a container in your kitchen, so that it becomes a natural thing to dump your leftover grinds into it. Once it is full then all you have to do is rub it into the soil around the plants that like an acid loving soil!

WHAT PLANTS LIKE COFFEE COMPOST?

Roses, Blueberries, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, azaleas, lily of the valley, carrots, and radishes.

WHY IS COFFEE COMPOST GOOD FOR YOUR ACID LOVING PLANTS?

It’s packed with potassium, nitrates and phosphorus that plants need to grow.

HOW TO ADD IT TO YOUR SOIL?

Loosen up the soil around your acid loving plants and scratch it into the top couple inches of the soil, or just sprinkle the grounds on top

WE LOVE EARTHWORMS!

Because they aerate the soil, and worms are attracted to coffee grinds. Another good reason!

GOT SLUGS?

Create a slug and snail barrier. Coffee grounds are abrasive, so a barrier of grounds placed near slug-prone plants may just save them from these guys!

WHY IS THIS GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?

We consume hundreds of cups of coffee every year, I certainly drink 2 a day at home. This is one more material that we don’t need to add to the landfills, and instead use it to enrich our soil.

WHEN SHOULD YOU START DOING THIS?

Now, well the next time you make a coffee, it is the easiest thing you can do for the environment.
