This Week In The Garden - 09/03/22

So excited to start planting again! Right now is the perfect time to get your seed potatoes planted. It was a nice dry week so we planted out the seed potatoes that we chitted over a month ago, read how to do this here. Potatoes really are so easy to grow, they are the one thing that I managed to grow from the get go when we started growing here at Broadspear 4 years ago.

I am growing four different varieties of potatoes this summer

  • Charlottes

  • Jazzy

  • Duke of York

  • Maris Pipers

. Here is a step by step for you to follow:

  1. Dig straight trenches 12cm deep and 60cm apart

  2. Plant seed potatoes 30cm apart and cover them with soil to fill the trench.

  3. When the shoots reach 20cm tall, use a rake or spade to mound soil up around the bases of the shoots, covering the stems half way. This is called earthing up.

  4. Watch them grow!
